The diffuser
What is cold-air diffusion?
Short answer: pressurised air breaks pure fragrance oil into microscopic dry particles and pushes them into the room as an invisible mist. No water, no heat, no residue.
Because there is no heat, the fragrance composition is not altered as it disperses — the last hour smells the same as the first. Because there is no water, the oil is not diluted and nothing settles as damp on your furniture. This is the method used in commercial hotel scenting.
How much space does The Key cover?
Up to 1,000 square feet (about 93 m²). In practice, coverage depends on ceiling height, airflow and how open the space is. A closed 400 sq ft room needs a much lower setting than an open-plan 900 sq ft floor.
Does it use water?
No. There is no tank to fill and nothing to refill except the oil itself.
Is it loud?
There is a faint air pump, audible in a silent room if you listen for it. It is quieter than a laptop fan but not silent. If total silence matters to you, an ultrasonic diffuser is the quieter option — we would rather tell you now than process a return.
What intensity settings does it have?
Six intensity levels and timers at 1, 2, 4 and 8 hours.
Can I use my own fragrance oils?
Yes. The Key takes standard fragrance oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. There is no proprietary cartridge and no cartridge lock-in — you are never restricted to buying from us.
The fragrances
How long does a bottle last?
At a moderate setting running a few hours a day, a 4 oz bottle lasts roughly 90 to 120 days and an 8 oz bottle roughly 6 to 8 months. Intensity setting is by far the biggest variable — running at level 5 instead of level 2 can empty a bottle three to four times faster.
Which fragrance should I choose?
Choose by the feeling you want, not the notes. Warm and rounded compositions (The Lobby, Four O'Clock) suit living rooms and entryways. Quieter, grounded compositions (First Light) suit bedrooms and offices. Bright citrus (Open Window) suits kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. Each product page lists the mood, the rooms it suits and an intensity rating.
Why can't I smell it after a while?
This is olfactory adaptation and it is normal. After about fifteen minutes of continuous exposure your receptors stop reporting a constant smell. The fix is not more output — turning it up usually makes the room overwhelming for visitors. Use a timer instead so the scent cycles and your perception resets.
Are the oils safe around pets?
We are not able to give veterinary guidance, and some fragrance ingredients are not suitable for certain animals — cats and birds in particular are more sensitive than dogs. Ask your vet about your specific animal before diffusing in a shared space.
Whose label is on the bottle?
The bottles arrive with our supplier's label on them. We select the oils; we do not yet bottle them under our own label. We would rather say that plainly than have it be a surprise when the parcel opens.
Ordering and delivery
Where do you ship?
The United States only, from a US warehouse. Shipping is free on every order.
How long does delivery take?
Most US orders arrive within 4 to 10 business days. You receive a tracking link by email as soon as the parcel ships.
Will everything arrive in one parcel?
Items from the same supplier ship together. If you order a diffuser and oils from different suppliers, they may arrive in separate parcels on different days. Each parcel gets its own tracking link.
Returns and warranty
What if I don't like it?
Return it within 30 days of delivery for a refund. The item should be in resalable condition with its original packaging.
Can I return an opened bottle of oil?
Opened oil cannot be resold, so it is not returnable. If a bottle arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, send us a photo within 7 days and we will replace it.
Is there a warranty on the diffuser?
Twelve months from delivery against manufacturing defects.
Subscriptions and commitments
Is there a subscription?
No. There is no subscription, no minimum term, no auto-renewal and no cancellation fee. You buy the diffuser once and you own it. You reorder oil when you want to, or you use someone else's oil entirely.
Why does that matter?
Most home scenting systems in this category sell the machine cheaply and recover the margin through proprietary cartridges, often with a minimum commitment and a fee to leave. Over three years the refill structure usually costs more than the machine ever did. We would rather charge a fair price once.
